After destroying the most developed countries’ healthcare systems and killing thousands of patients, the Coronavirus pandemic has hit the borders of Pakistan. Pakistan’s healthcare system is still in a state where a lot yet to be desired. However, Government of Pakistan, and especially Government of Sindh is very actively and tirelessly working to nip it in the bud.
It is an issue which knocked down the countries like China and Italy, therefore, keeping those examples in mind, the Sindh Government included private and non-governmental organizations to face the challenge. The Indus Hospital is not only one of the leading hospitals of the country it is also running a country-wide network of hospitals, primary care clinics, and public health programs in more than 50 districts of the country.
The honorable Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah particularly included the Indus Hospital in the Anti-Coronavirus campaign and since then Indus is playing a pivotal role.
Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, Chief Executive Officer, Indus Health Network elaborates Indus’ role, “the first Corona patient was detected on February 26, 2020 and the same day, Government of Sindh called all major hospitals and stakeholders to devise a strategy and action plan. The CM showed his confidence in the Indus Hospital by approving a 300 Million rupees grant to Indus for establishing two hospitals to combat Coronavirus. He also ordered to provide 10,000 testing kits to Indus for free Coronavirus testing. Recently the Government of Sindh has allocated another 3 Billion rupees grant. The grants are being used to set up isolation, quarantine, testing, and treatment facilities.”
He further says, “The Indus Hospital has devised a comprehensive and all-encompassing policy and is taking necessary actions to face the pandemic. The management is collaborating with government and private hospitals to take joint actions to control the possible outbreak. The hospital is also issuing public health awareness material and is training its clinical and non-clinical staff on how to be save themselves and how to effectively and safely treat patients.”
