As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, let us eagerly anticipate Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Decree. Described in the Quran as “better than a thousand months” (Surah Al-Qadr, 97:3), this sacred night is a time of immense spiritual significance, divine mercy, and unparalleled blessings. It is a night when prayers are answered, sins are forgiven, and destinies are shaped. Among the many acts of worship encouraged during this time, giving in charity holds a special place, as it multiplies rewards and brings us closer to Allah’s mercy. The last ten days, known as ‘Ashra e Nijaat’ (Safety from Hell), offer a unique opportunity to earn multiplied blessings, seek forgiveness, and draw closer to Allah. During this period, acts of worship and devotion are amplified, allowing us to maximise our rewards.
The Significance of Laylat al-Qadr
Laylat al-Qadr, often referred to as the Night of Power, marks the night when the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is a night of reflection, gratitude, and seeking forgiveness. The exact date of Laylat al-Qadr is unknown, but it is widely believed to occur during the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on the odd-numbered nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th).
On this night, the gates of heaven are open, and the blessings of good deeds are multiplied manifold. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever stands (in prayer) during Laylat al-Qadr with faith and hoping for reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Sahih al-Bukhari).
The Power of Giving During Laylat al-Qadr
Charity, or sadaqah, is one of the most beloved acts of worship in Islam, and its rewards are magnified during Ramadan, especially on Laylat al-Qadr. The act of giving not only purifies our wealth but also strengthens our connection with Allah and those in need.
- Multiply Your Rewards
The rewards of good deeds, including charity, are multiplied exponentially on Laylat al-Qadr. By donating during this blessed night, you can earn the equivalent of over 83 years of worship in a single act of generosity.
- Seek Forgiveness and Mercy
Giving in charity is a means of seeking Allah’s forgiveness and mercy. It is an opportunity to cleanse our hearts and souls, especially on a night when sins are forgiven and prayers are answered.
- Transform Lives
Your donations during Laylat al-Qadr can have a profound impact on the lives of thousands of patients in need. Whether it’s providing free medicines, cochlear implants, prosthetic limbs,or nutritious food, your generosity can bring hope and relief to vulnerable communities.
- Follow the Sunnah
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known for his immense generosity, especially during Ramadan. By giving in charity, we follow his example and embody the spirit of compassion and selflessness.
Charity plays a key role in these final days, and giving to those in need—whether through financial donations, food, or even time and effort—multiplies our rewards. Acts of kindness and generosity are especially magnified during this blessed period. By giving selflessly, not only do we help others, but we also attract Allah’s mercy and blessings into our lives. The act of giving brings us closer to Him and acts as a means of gaining His pleasure, as the Qur’an beautifully says: “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that grows seven ears, and in each ear, there are one hundred grains.” (Quran, 2:261).
Let us remember that every act of devotion—no matter how small—counts. Whether through fasting, prayer, charity, or reflection, each action during this sacred time holds immense potential for reward.
